WonHundred Word Wednesday: I See You

PROMPT: You are on a crowded subway platform when you see a familiar face.

Across the sea of faces, I see his eyes light up with recognition. He knows who I am.

When he begins the trek toward me, I swallow hard and search for a means of escape. Anywhere. But I’m blocked in — it’s just too crowded.

My stomach flips upside-down, and I can feel the pizza I ate for lunch fighting for its freedom. The closer he comes, the harder it struggles. I must get away, somehow. My palms are cold and clammy. My feet shift beneath me, inching backward in self-preservation.

Suddenly, he’s there.

“Thought that was you. So… you in?”
