An Unlikely Alliance: Rachel Van Dyken

It is my pleasure to present to you the newest release by Rachel Van Dyken, An Unlikely Alliance, a Valentine's Day novella.

Cover Blurb:

Spoiled New York rogue Royce Mc Arthur lives a charmed life. He sees no reason to settle down, until his mother issues her decree that he must grow up, find a wife and produce some grandchildren…preferably before she dies of old age. But his choices are quite limited considering the only women of his acquaintance are ones of ill repute.

Meeting the beautiful Evelyn DeJarlias at a ball gives him hope he may have found the one. Her southern blue collar outspokenness and lack of refinement draws him like a moth to a flame. Unfortunately, she does not find him nearly as endearing -- consistently refusing his lavish gifts and his attentions, she poses a challenge he simply cannot ignore.

When his mother and her widowed father begin to keep company together secretly, it provides the perfect excuse for him to spend time with Miss DeJarlias. But figures from Royce's past threaten to destroy the blossoming love between the couple. Evelyn must decide if she is willing to trust the man or hold his past indiscretions against him.

My favorite part of the book is the banter between the two main characters. Evelyn's southern spirit gives rise to many snarky comments aimed at bringing Royce down a peg or two. I'm not gonna lie, it always gives me a little thrill when over-confident male characters get their just desserts.

Rachel weaves a fun plot. Royce decides early that Evelyn is the girl for him. Evelyn, however, takes a little longer to convince, and even then she falls for him against her better judgment. This book is set in Regency period America, so the flavor is similar to Rachel's House of Renwick books. A delightful comedic story full of hiding, spying and scandalous adventures. I loved it!

I asked Rachel to drop in and tell us a little about her newest release.

What is your favorite scene in An Unlikely Alliance?
My favorite scene in Unlikely Alliance, is where Royce meets Evelyn for the first time. She's trying not to faint from lack of food and he thinks she's the most delicious thing he's seen in years...

How does Royce McArthur measure up to your other male lead characters?
He is a lot goofier than my other male leads, but still cocky. Apparently, I like to write about cocky men!!! He's hilarious and spoiled, and has always gotten what he wants in life... until now.

What are you working on now?
Right now I'm just finishing up The Redemption of Lord Rawlings, the third book in the Renwick House series. It's probably one of my favorite stories I've written! I'm pumped for it to release this March!

Thanks for stopping by, Rachel. Congratulations on your new release and your upcoming releases Compromising Kessen and The Redemption of Lord Rawlings.

  2. Enjoyed this review. I've never read a Regency, but I like the idea of one with some comedic elements ... and set in America.
